Anthony DeMartino (Genovese)

c. Mid-1960s
Anthony 'Tony the Bum' DeMartino was a member of the Genovese Family.

Born July 28, 1910 in New York to Leone (23y), a piano maker, and Marie Cerrato (20y). Father from Province of Salerno, Campania.

Younger brothers Theodore aka 'Teddy the Bum' (1912-c.1973) and Benjamin aka 'Benny the Bum' (1913-1993) were also Genovese members.

At the time of Anthony's birth, the DeMartinos were believed to be residing at 326 East 117th in Manhattan's East Harlem neighborhood.

By June 1915 their listed residence was at 165 St. Ann's Ave in Mott Haven, The Bronx. Anthony's father operated a barber shop.

By 1920 the family returned to East Harlem and lived at multiple addresses on East 117th and East 118th Streets.

By Fall 1936 Anthony resided nearby at 2272 2nd Ave.

On November 30, 1936 he and brother Teddy were among 4 arrested on vagrancy charges. The brothers, along with Patsy 'Patty Bones' Como (26y) and Patsy Genese (26y), were picked up at Fulton Ave and East 3rd St in Mount Vernon, New York. The case was dismissed the following day. (Like the DeMartinos, Patsy Genese [1910-1995] was later inducted into the Genovese Family, possibly after the books opened in the 1976. Patsy Como [1908-1988], older brother of Gambino Soldier Louis Como [1920-1992], was a known associate of Harlem crew member Joseph Rao [1901-1962].)

By Fall 1940 Anthony and wife Theresa Marie resided at 191 East 115th St in East Harlem.

On December 19, 1950 he was among fourteen indicted by the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York on theft from interstate shipment (hijacking) charges. The case ended in acquittal around mid-June 1951.

By 1958 Anthony and his two brothers were made members of the Genovese Family's large Harlem-based crew, then headed by Michael 'Trigger Mike' Coppola.
