Born October 1920 to Sicilian parents from the town of Capizzi in Messina, LaPietra rose to Captain over the Family's 26th Street crew. Younger brother James was also a made member of the crew.

In October 1983 LaPietra sponsored brothers Frank and Nick Calabrese for membership.

Nick Calabrese would later become a cooperating witness and serve as the linchpin of the mid-2000s Family Secrets case.

Lawrence (1930-2020) was a made member in the Chicago Family and Joseph (1925-1999), aka Joe Elks, a suspected member.

Born to parents from Termini Imerese in Palermo, Battaglia was an influential member of the Family who held a leadership position following Boss Sam Giancana's legal problems and subsequent relocation to Mexico.

Characterized in FBI documents as 'reluctant' to assume control, Battaglia was beset with legal problems of his own culminating in a fifteen year sentence for extortion. He died in 1973.

FBI files on Sam Battaglia have been uploaded by the Milwaukee Mafia site and can be found here.
