Felix Monaco (Genovese)

1960s
Felix / Philip 'The Cat' Monaco was a made member in the Genovese Family's Harlem crew.

Born December 26, 1917 in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania to Ruggiero (34y) and Angelina Ruocco (25y). Parents from Agropoli comune of Salerno, Campania.

At the time of Felix's birth the family resided at 129 Middle Ave in Wilmerding, a town located about ten miles outside Pittsburgh. Ruggiero worked as a machine hand with Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company in East Pittsburgh. (Several members of the local Family, including the Volpe brothers, came from Agropoli.)

By April 1920 the Monacos moved to New York, settling in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan.

Through the twenties and the thirties they spent time at various addresses on E 117th and E 118th Sts before leaving for Claremont in The Bronx, where Ruggiero went from shoemaker to postal worker.

Felix married Mildred Russo (27y) in that borough on June 16, 1945. Witnesses were Benjamin and Rose Lalli. The bride, daughter to Anthony and Maria Buonacore, was also originally from East Harlem.

By April 1950 the couple was living at 336 E 118th in the old neighborhood. Felix listed his employment as fruit salesman.

By 1958 he was a made member of the Genovese Family's large Harlem-based crew, then headed by Michael 'Trigger Mike' Coppola.
