Dominick Cappolla (Genovese)

1967

Dominick 'Buddy' Cappolla was a Genovese Captain active in Manhattan.

Born in December 1923, he grew up in Manhattan's Little Italy neighborhood.

In the late 1940s he served a nine month sentence for selling heroin.

Around the mid-to-late 1950s Cappolla was inducted into the Genovese Family under the sponsorship of Salvatore 'Sally Burns' Granello.

In 1967 he was convicted on state charges of extortion and assault with deadly weapon and spent six years at Sing Sing Prison and Greenhaven Correctional Facility.

By April 1974 he was under Michele 'Mickey Dimino' Generoso (1918-2015).

Made members of Generoso's crew included Peter 'Patty Shark' Bivona, Dominick Cappolla, Cosmo 'Carlie' DiPietro, Salvatore Lauro, Ernest Lazzara, Maurice 'Chubby' Longo and Eugene 'Gene the Tailor' Uricola. (Federal reports from both before and after this time period instead place Lazzara with the LaPlaca crew in New Jersey.)

Possible crew members included Paul 'Paulie Lefty' Della Universita and Joseph 'Little Joey' Giammarino.

By Fall 1980 Cappolla is named as a Captain 'from' Mulberry St in Little Italy. This appears to have been a crew separate from Generoso.

Those reporting to Cappolla included Nicholas 'Nicky the Blond' Frustaci. Possible Soldiers under Cappolla included Mario Gigante.

He was identified as Captain in a 1985 Federal chart, and as a Soldier in 1983 / 1988 Senate Charts.

Cappolla was then believed to be residing in Staten Island. He died in June 2020 at 96 years old.
