Rudolph Izzi (Genovese)

1992
Rudolph 'Rudy Cueball' Izzi was a Genovese Soldier active in Brooklyn.

His unsolved murder in 2007 remains the most recent killing of a made member in that Family.

Born June 28, 1932 in Brooklyn to Angelo (42y) and Rubina Izzi (36y). Father from Vasto comune of Chieti, Abruzzo.

At the time of Rudy's birth the family resided at 1261 Bay Ridge Ave in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. His father worked as a tailor.

In 1967 indicted by the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York on charges of transporting approximately $1,000,000 worth of stolen securities across state lines into Pennsylvania.

On May 3, 1968 surrendered to the FBI's New York Office. United Press International reported: "At his arraignment before Federal Judge Milton Pollack, Izzi said he surrendered to the FBI two days ago when he learned for the first time he was wanted on [the charges]. Izzi said he had been in Florida and other parts of the United States and was not aware that he was wanted. Pollack said, 'Frankly, I don't believe you,' and agreed to the government's request he be held in lieu of $100,000 bond. [FBI's John] Malone said the securities were stolen from a brokerage firm July 30, 1966, and Aug. 26, 1966. The 2,600 shares were recovered from a safety deposit box in the Harrisburg National Bank and Trust Co. They were pledged as collateral for the capital of the Bankers Telephone Employees Insurance Co. of Gettysburg, Pa. The FBI said Pennsylvania State Police and the state Insurance Commission were investigating the company and another company, Bankers Allied Mutual Insurance Co."

On April 11, 1969 convicted.

On May 14, 1969 sentenced by SDNY Judge Walter Mansfield to eight years Federal imprisonment. The Associated Press described Izzi as a 'Brooklyn garment firm employee' and reported: "Mansfield pronounced Izzi's sentence Wednesday after Asst. U.S. Atty. Jack Kaplan pointed out that 'a large portion of the balance' of the $2 million in stocks is still missing, and that Izzi has not helped the government 'although he knows from whom he got the stock.' Izzi disappeared for 14 months after the theft, the judge noted. Mansfield remarked: 'I have not the slightest doubt he was laying low for the reason he knew he was involved in a serious crime. I think he's gotten himself mixed up with some very bad figures.'"

Later that year Genovese Member Antonio 'Hickey' DiLorenzo was convicted in the same case and given a ten-year sentence. (In September 1967 FBI CI and Colombo Soldier Gregory Scarpa advised that Antonio DiLorenzo [1928-1988] 'has definitely been made' a Genovese Captain. In April 1974 an FBI member source reported that the crew formerly run by Captain Thomas 'Tommy Palmer' Greco 'was given' to DiLorenzo and 'is now being run' by Rosario 'Sally Young' Palmieri. DiLorenzo was murdered on Family orders in November 1988.)

By the mid-1970s Izzi may have been an associate in the crew of Genovese Captain Joseph 'Joe Beck' Lapi.

On August 12, 1977 FBI CI reported that he and an Unsub were operating a high stakes crap game.

By 1978 financial interest in Bagel Nosh in Manhattan.

On morning of July 10, 1980 Genovese Soldier Gerard 'Jerry' Pappa (36y) shotgunned to death inside Villa 66 restaurant at 6602 14th Ave in Dyker Heights. Pappa believed killed for his involvement in the unauthorized murder of Former (?) Colombo Acting Captain Thomas 'Shorty' Spero the previous March.

Over the years cooperating witnesses have identified various members and associates from the Bonanno, Colombo and Genovese Families as the killers.

E. Gentile
Many years later the FBI named both Izzi and Genovese Soldier Enrico 'Red Hot' Gentile as prime suspects.

On October 26, 1983 Izzi was included in an FBI list of Genovese Members.

On December 22, 1987 an updated Genovese chart was compiled, naming Louis 'Louie Healthy' Gaccione and twelve others as Genovese Captains. The report identified Rosario 'Ross' Gangi as Gaccione's Acting Captain and listed the crew members as Frank 'Frankie C.' Catenaccio, Rudolph Izzi, Joseph Mogavero, Rosario Palmieri, Rudolph 'Scarface Rudy' Prisco and Two Redacted Names.

Mar. 1992
On March 2 and 30, 1992 photographed by FBI visiting Giacomino's Restaurant located at 1111 1st Ave in Lenox Hill, Manhattan. (Others noted as frequenting this location included Bronx-based Genovese Captain Rudolph Santobello.)

In June 1993 included in the FBI's list of 162 identified Genovese Family members.

By 2001 resided at 1817 Shore Parkway in Gravesend, Brooklyn.

On April 24 of that year arrested at his residence on charges of reckless endangerment, possessing an explosive instrument and possessing usury records. The police were called to the location after a report of shots fired. An unexploded pipe bomb and loansharking records were seized.

Izzi gave the following statement on the day of arrest: "This guy came to my door, rang my bell. I opened the door and the man said, 'I'm going to hit you in the head.' The guy had a gun and he hit me in the head. I'm not sure what he hit me with. It might have been the gun or it could have been this blackjack. The guy dropped this too. I know he hit me in the head. Then I wrestled the gun away from him and he ran away. I fired the gun to empty it into the garden area. Then I went into the garage to call the police, but I didn't get a chance."

On June 12, 2001 pleaded guilty to final charge misdemeanor possession of usury records and given a conditional discharge.

On October 23, 2003 held by the FBI as material witness in unspecified case.

On December 17, 2003 the FBI requested that fingerprints lifted from shotgun shells recovered at the scene of Jerry Pappa's 1980 murder be compared to those of Izzi, the now-deceased Enrico Gentile and a third individual whose name is redacted.

R. DeCicco
Gang Land News
On June 5, 2007 Gambino Associate Robert DeCicco (56y), son of Gambino Soldier / Former Captain George DeCicco, shot and wounded outside 1678 Bath Ave in Bath Beach, Brooklyn.

Two days later on June 7, at approximately 2:00 PM, seventy-four-year-old Rudolph Izzi was found shot to death inside a bedroom of his residence at 1817 Shore Parkway. He had been shot once in the head. Approximately $1,000,000 in loanshark receipts were found on a table inside the home.

An address book recovered at the scene included an entry for one Anthony Russo. (This might be the same individual included in a Genovese Family induction list from around 1991.)

The location of Izzi's murder was about a mile from the scene of the DeCicco shooting, and press reports indicated that the two incidents were related.

On June 12 FBI reported: "Izzi was a Soldier in the Genovese Family involved in sports betting, gambling and loansharking."

On June 20 FBI reported: "On 6/7/07, Genovese LCN Soldier, Rudy Izzi, was murdered in his house in Brooklyn. He was shot once in the mouth in a classic mob style killing. It is believed the gun used to kill Izzi was a nine millimeter. Two days prior, a Gambino Associate was shot a number of times in the same Brooklyn neighborhood but survived."

The case remains unsolved and Izzi is currently the last known Genovese member to have been murdered.
